I then brought out the Chrome Bare Metal Foil and added sections of it to the front and rear bumpers. I also added the front headlamp buckets. These are original Hasegawa chrome parts, but using my Motolow chrome pen I had to touch up the areas where it attached to the chrome sprue.

This shows the floor of the VW. I could have left this as is, this would have given the effect of the vehicle having a metal floor and no carpeting.
The cab area of the floor. Sometimes things don’t go to plan, I had to take off the first attempt of flocking as it wasn’t up to my standard.
The tools I use. A. Tamiya Flocking Powder. B. Humbrol Matt Grey Enamel. I find it’s better to use a Matt enamel, because when it drys you can’t see it. A gloss enamel can shine through the flocking powder. Also shown is a tea strainer this is hand to sift the powder into finer particles and it gives an better even surface.
The Matt grey enamel painted on using a normal medium size paint brush.
The flocking powder that has been sprinkled over the Matt paint. I do this on top of a clean piece of paper. This makes recycling the excess powder a lot easier. You just fold the paper into a V shape and gently pour the powder back into the Hiroboy container.
After taping off the excess.
The rear area. Now you could risk it and paint he full area, but the paint can dry leaving a surface that the flocking powder won’t adhere to. So as this is where the middle seat is situated I painted up to this area, then sprinkled the flocking powder over it. I then left it for 10mins before taping off the excess.
I then painted the remaining area and carried out the flocking process again.

And the finished article. Next up is painting the seats.
The clear glass sections that came with the kit were in an awful state. The front and side windows were cracked which doesn’t matter as I’m not going to use them. This is the side and roof window sections. I honestly thought these couldn’t be repaired.
But that’s to the Scholl Concept compounds and some hard work they’ve come up great. No sign of any of the scratches. Result.
This shows what has got to be the worst part of this build to do. The black window surrounds.
First up I attempted to mask and airbrush them which was a non starter. I then spent most of yesterday free hand drawing them in with a black Sharpie. I don’t want to do that many windows in one go ever again.

And the front is almost completed. I’ve added the indicators, and the glass in the headlamps. These glass sections were another pain as they didn’t fit at all. So out came the fine sanding and polishing sticks. Grrrrr.
Anyway next up is the side windows which will be open and the front Safari Style windows from Highlight Model Studio.
One part I’m not yet convinced on it the VW badge on the front, should I leave it as is and highlight round the shape with some Tamiya Panel Line or chrome it. What do you think.

The superb Safari Window conversion for the VW T2 from Highlight Model Studio.
The window kit is superb however as Robert did on his build I decided to include the Rivets and washers, from Hobby Design and Top Studio.

Like Robert’s build I decided to use this for the front and side windows.
The windows built up.
The dashboard. I used the decals from a 1/24 Revell VW T2 kit for the dashboard as they look a lot better than the Hasegawa ones.
Stupidly I forgot to take a photo of the steering wheel and column before I fitted it. This will do.
It’s getting there, honest. PS the windows are meant to be at different heights.
I used the rear lid handle from a Revell VW kit.
The wheels and tyres fitted up. When I first fitted them I knew it didn’t look good enough so I decided I needed to add white walls.
At first I thought these will be hard to do, but the Hasegawa VW tyres have a lip half way up the tyre which made life so much easier.
So with Tamiya XF2 thinned down with some Tamiya X20A so it was like water, I gave the tyres 2 coats of paint. All I did was let the capillary action of the paint do the work.

And the chrome hubcaps added
And all the tyres fitted.
The seats in the VW gave me a wee bit of headache with what and how I was going to do them. In the end it was quite simple.
All I did was firstly paint the seats Zero Paints VW Turkis Green, which is the colour of the bottom half of the bus.
I then ran a very thin strip of Tamiya masking tape round the edge of the seat.

I then painted them Zero Paints VW Pearl White, which is the colour on the top halves of the car. I then peeled off the tape leaving the green line.
I then fitted the seats and the gear stick with its Molotow Chrome ball to the car.
The Highlight Model Studio reg plate built up. I’ve left the front one of the VW.
Hi there folks these are the final build pics for the VW 23 Window. The exterior of the VW was painted using Zero Paints VW Turkis Green and Pearl White. It was clear coated using Zero Paints 2K Diamond Finish Clear Coat.
The additions to this kit were the front Safari Windows and rear number plate from Highlight Model Studio. I also lowered the VW by a fair amount. I’ll go into how I lowered it on another post.
And that’s it, quite a simple build that is now on its way to its new owner.

I then clear coated the roof panel used Zero Paints 2K Semi Gloss Clear Coat which gives a nice Satin Finish. I also added 10 Hobby Design 0.75mm metal rivets around the outside of the roof panel.
